House fire on Gardner Avenue

CORNWALL – Firefighters were battling heavy smoke and flames from a home on Gardner Avenue in the city’s east end.

The call came in around 7:30 p.m. for the two-storey home with an attached garage in the 100 block of Gardner.

Firefighters had initially battled flames coming from an attached garage, which spread into the main section of the structure.

Heavy smoke could be seen several blocks away.

Paramedics were also on scene though it’s not clear at this time whether there were any injuries.

Firefighters were able to have the situation under control by 8:30 p.m.

The Cornwall Mobile Command Center and the fire prevention department were securing the scene overnight.
