LANCASTER – A mother and daughter from Glengarry, who have been playing the lottery for about nine years, eventually got a big payoff.
Carole Poll of Dalkeith and Samantha Poll of Lancaster won $100,000 after matching six of seven numbers on their Encore ticket from the June 11, 2016 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Carole said she “she had no idea what was happening” when the retailer’s terminal froze while checking the ticket.
“The retailer confirmed I was a Big Winner, and when OLG called and told me it was $100,000, I burst out crying!” Carole recalled. “I called my husband when I returned to work and he had to figure out what was happening through my tears. Luckily, he knew they were tears of joy and immediately asked what my plans were for the win.”
Carole had left her daughter a note to meet with her – only to tell her she needed to pay up for her share of the lottery ticket.
But then Carole broke the good news. “I couldn’t wait any longer and told her we had to go to Toronto to pick up our winnings! Samantha started jumping up and down and we hugged each other.”
Mother plans to use the money for a new camper for a planned trip to the Northwest Territories or Alaska when her husband retires in a year, while daughter plans to do some home renovations.
The winning ticket was bought at the Esso on Main Street in Alexandria.
