WILLIAMSTOWN – Two Char-Lan District High School students have taken home gold from competitions in wakeboarding and track and field.
Mackayla Petrie, 16, picked up three gold medals at the 2016 Canadian Wakeboard and Wakeskate Championships last week in British Columbia.
She won the junior womens’ boat, women’s professional open and amateur women’s cable events.
“I was pretty happy,” Petrie said. “It kind of makes moving away from home and my friends (to train) worth it, knowing that I’m going to continue pushing myself and pushing the female side of the sport. Words can’t describe it.”
In track and field, pole vaulter Brennan Seguin, 17, won gold in the male youth event at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Quebec after vaulting 4.35 meters.
Seguin plans to take his training to the next level in hopes of competing in pole vault at university.
