Overnight fire in Alice St. apartment complex

CORNWALL – An overnight fire in an apartment complex in the city’s east end has left nine people temporarily homeless.

Firefighters were called around 2:30 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 4) after someone in the six-plex in the 200 block of Alice Street called 911.

There were 14 firefighters and five vehicles from two stations that responded to the scene.

Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and were able to keep the fire contained to one unit, Platoon Chief Pierre Baril said.

One firefighter was assessed by paramedics at the scene as a precaution but did not seek further treatment.

There were no injuries.

The fire department wrapped up at the scene at 6:30 a.m.

There’s no word on the cause of the fire.
