Final theft charge dropped against Afghan war vet

MORRISBURG – A final charge of motor vehicle theft against a decorated Afghan war veteran has been dropped.

That’s according to court records following a Tuesday, July 19, 2016 court appearance in Morrisburg.

It appears to be the final legal chapter for Collin Fitzgerald – a Medal of Military Valour recipient, who was arrested July 31, 2014 at his Iroquois home after his former home with his ex-wife burned to the ground.

At the time, he was under conditions to remain at his parents’ Morrisburg home and not to have contact with his ex-wife.

Fitzgerald was never charged in connection to the fire but was charged for allegedly breaking bail conditions.

Those three breach charges were dropped during a court appearance May 31, 2016 in Morrisburg.

Fitzgerald has been forthright about his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder following his tour of duty.
