Cornwall institutes welfare cheque plan with possible mail strike

SD&G – The City of Cornwall is making a plan for people in SD&G to pick up welfare cheques with a possible mail strike on the horizon.

Today (Wednesday) is the last day mail will be guaranteed delivered in the event that Canada Post workers are off the job Saturday (July 2).

The plan in Cornwall, which is the SD&G administrator for social services, is going ahead regardless is there’s a work stoppage, the city said.

Recipients of Ontario Works cheques or drug and dental cards will be able to pick them up Thursday (June 30) or Monday (July 4) at the Benson Center between 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.

You will need proof of identification.

Direct deposit will not be affected by the strike.
