CORNWALL – One woman has been taken to hospital after a two car crash at the intersection of Second Street West and Bedford Street Tuesday afternoon.

The collision between a Ford Focus hatchback and a Ford Fusion sedan sent the hatchback careening into a cement set of stairs to a house on the northwest corner of the intersection.

The Fusion came to rest against a utility pole.

The woman driving the Fusion was checked over by paramedics in the ambulance while the other driver – an older woman – was put on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.

The woman was responsive and talking to firefighters and paramedics as she got on the stretcher under her own will.

Police said she was taken to hospital for assessment as a precaution.

Cornwall police were on the scene investigating and traffic was briefly detoured off Second Street between Cumberland and York Streets.
