SD&G – A survey conducted by the Eastern Ontario Training Board suggests employers in the Stormont-Dundas-Glengarry and Prescott-Russell regions are in the hiring mood.
Results from the Employer One survey, from January to March this year, show nearly 27 per cent of the 1,000 or so employers asked planning to hire in the coming year.
Forty-three per cent had hired in 2015.
Adding to the optimism is the businesses that were hiring took on more hires than they planned, according to Labour Market Information Analyst Diane Soucie.
The survey also shows an upswing in getting workers into hard-to-fill jobs and the pool of qualified workers is also better than 2015.
“We are hoping that this year’s results reflect a trend where employers are hiring that talent locally,” said Martha Woods, assistant manager with EOTB.
