CORNWALL – Bring on the baristas.

Cornwall’s planning committee will review an application Monday for a future Starbucks on Brookdale Avenue.

The Harden Group development on Brookdale Avenue, which also houses Shopper’s Drug Mart, Thai Express and Boston Pizza, will ask for a brownfield grant to update the site plan for Plaza Cornwall.

Planning diagrams before committee members, stamped “issued for debate” in French, clearly show a proposed 2,000 square foot building labelled “STARBUCKS” to be built in the east side of the property, parallel to Brookdale Avenue.

“We actually have no information to share at this time,” said a Starbucks Canada spokesperson when contacted by Cornwall Newswatch.

The high-end coffee outlet would also have a wrap-around drive-thru and a 975 square foot terrace at the north side of the building.

The application to PAC is asking for assistance up to $4,883 for help with planning fees, a site plan amendment and building permit submission.

There’s no timeline on the $5.5 million development though city councillor Maurice Dupelle is quoted as saying the construction might start in the fall.
