CORNWALL – Cornwall police had cruisers with flashing lights outside Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School Tuesday morning to greet some special athletes.

They were basketball quarterfinals for the School Championships & Qualifiers Program, formally known as Four Corners, which is designed for students aged 13-21 with an intellectual disability.

The sports in the program include track and field, bocce, soccer and – in today’s contest – basketball.

There are 48 regional qualifiers across Ontario and those winning teams will head to the Durham region for the provincial championships in June.

Cornwall’s CCVS is hosting the basketball portion of the program.
