CORNWALL – This may make people think twice about making gestures.

A teenage student is facing an assault charge after he was accused of making “a gesture with a fist towards a teacher,” said police.

It happened last week (March 10) and the 15-year-old showed up on Thursday at police headquarters, where he was charged with assault and released to appear in court at a later date.

Under the Criminal Code of Canada, someone can be charged with assault when a person attempts or threatens by an act or gesture to apply force to another person.

The name of the youth is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police did not disclose the name of the school.
