LONG SAULT – South Stormont firefighters had to rescue an all-terrain vehicle driver after his machine crashed through the ice Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters were called around 2:15 p.m. for a six-wheeler (Argo) stuck in the ice off shore near Wales Drive (County Road 12) and County Road 2.

It was in an area east of Hoople Bay, near the St. Lawrence Valley Cemetery.

Akwesasne was also dispatched to help with their boat.

SD&G O.P.P. said the 69-year-old rider “went off course and found himself stuck in the city waters.”

The Argo was pulled out and the man and machine were brought back to shore around 3:20 p.m.

The man was uninjured.
