Suspected welfare fraudster arrested

CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is accused of defrauding the welfare system for nearly $10,000.

Cornwall police say a welfare recipient failed to declare changes in his living arrangements to the Ontario Works Resource Center between May 2013 and May 2014.

That resulted in a government over payment of $9,911.95.

Police launched an investigation after receiving a call.

Marcel Dupuis, 66, of Cornwall was arrested yesterday (Feb. 24) and is charged with fraud over $5,000.

Dupuis was released and will appear in a Cornwall court March 24, 2016.

Law enforcement in Cornwall has been cracking down on suspected welfare cheats, with at least three people arrested in the last six months.
