CORNWALL – City council decided Monday night to go ahead with the steps to rename a park in memory of a former councillor.
Blossom Park will eventually be named Ray Lalonde Memorial Park, in recognition of the former city councillor.
“Ray Lalonde was a pillar in our community. Maybe at the end of April we could have an official opening,” said Coun. Andre Rivette, who proposed the idea.
“It’s something that’s well deserved and I’m very happy to do this,” Rivette said.
Coun. Bernadette Clement called it a good idea and said she learned a lot about the four-term councillor and advocate for disabled people, who died in 2011.
The proposal is still going through a public review process where citizens can submit comments to the city on the proposed name change.
Blossom Park is on Blossom Park Drive, south of Holy Cross Boulevard, in Glenview Heights.
