CORNWALL – Facing continuing complaints about winter sidewalk clearing, Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy has asked for a report on improving the level of service.
“I receive a lot of complaints,” the mayor said. “I don’t recall any increase in equipment to deal with the growth of new subdivisions.”
The mayor wants to see a report on what it would take to bring the level of service up to what he remembered five to seven years ago.
The public works division manager agrees. “To me there needs to be an improvement in the level of service,” Bill de Wit said.
De Wit said the sidewalk machines can be temperamental and can break down, leading to increased challenges in clearing sidewalks quickly after a storm.
The public works department will bring back a report in the coming weeks.
