MORRISBURG — The fire chief for South Dundas Fire and Rescue is on a leave-of-absence from his position with the municipality.
Chris McDonough has been out since Jan. 14.
When contacted by Cornwall Newswatch for comment, South Dundas CAO Shannon Geraghty stated, “all that can be said is the fire chief is on leave until further notice.”
Calls to McDonough for comment have not been returned as of publication time.
McDonough was hired as the first full-time fire chief for the municipality in December 2010. The position was created after a recommendation to the municipality by the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
Three of the five members of the current municipal council, Mayor Evonne Delegarde (then councillor), Deputy-Mayor Jim Locke, and councillor Archie Mellon, were on the council that hired McDonough. McDonough has been with the municipality for just over five years.
In July 2015, then CAO for the municipality, Steve McDonald, was on a leave of absence before his employment was bought out by the municipality.
