Two tax-related scams are back

CORNWALL – City police are warning you about two popular scams involving people posing as the Canada Revenue Agency.

The police service has received several questions about emails, supposedly from the CRA, ordering people to pay up on their delinquent taxes or they’ll be arrested and thrown in jail.

Another instructs people to fill out a form and provide personal information, such as your social insurance number and your birth date, in order to get a tax credit.

“The CRA does not threaten to have you arrested and do not request for payment through a money transfer service like Western Union or Moneygram,” said the CCPS in a statement.

If you want to report one of these fraud attempts, you should call 1-800-959-8281.
