SD&G – The deputy mayor of North Glengarry had taken the top seat at the United Counties.

Jamie MacDonald was installed as the new warden of SD&G for 2016, taking over for Eric Duncan, who served two consecutive terms.

Roughly 100 people were at the SD&G county building on Pitt Street Friday morning for the ceremony, including MacDonald’s wife, Brenda, and his children, Madison and Cameron.

MacDonald has served on North Glengarry council for nine years and is currently the chairman of the Service Manager Joint Liaison Committee. He is also on the St. Lawrence River Institute board.

“With 165 years of history as a municipality, we have a long and proud past,” said MacDonald, while noting the challenges ahead.

“I intend to work closely with my council colleagues tackling these challenges, including strengthening our relationship with our service delivery partners and undertaking some needed renovations to county facilities to improve access, service delivery, and safety.”

MacDonald will chair his first county council meeting on Monday (Dec. 21).
