GLEN WALTER — The shovels are in the ground for a new fire hall in South Glengarry.

Officials broke ground Thursday at the intersection of Bray Street and Street ‘A’ for the new Glen Walter fire station, which will have access to County Road 2.

Mayor Ian McLeod said the fire hall is in a perfect spot to serve the local community.

Local firm Grant Marion Construction will be carrying out the work, which should be done by the end of the year.

Fire Chief Vic Leroux said the new fire hall will address the department’s needs over the next five decades and beyond.
