GLEN WALTER – SD&G O.P.P. have released more details in a weekend crash that gravely injured a driver of an SUV.

Police say a 1994 GMC sport utility vehicle, heading toward Cornwall on County Road 2, failed to negotiate a curve and struck a tree.

The driver, identified as a 59-year-old man from South Glengarry, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police say he was the lone occupant in the vehicle.

A source tells Cornwall Newswatch the man was transferred to an Ottawa hospital for treatment for substantial head injuries.

The Saturday morning crash happened just before 5:30 a.m. on County Road 2 in a sharp bend in the road just east of Purcell Road.

SD&G O.P.P. Const. Joel Doiron couldn’t say whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash as the investigation is ongoing.

A section of the highway was closed for several hours.
