SD&SG – MPP Jim McDonell says the province’s hydro utility is a monopoly that has “completely lost its moral compass.”
Those words on the heels of a scathing report Monday morning from the Ontario ombudsman saying Hydro One had outrageously bad customer service as it tried to fix technical problems with its billing.
Andre Marin says his office received 10,700 complaints about the new billing system, which left many customers angry and baffled.
Marin accused the utility of deliberate deception by threatening customers to cut them off for unpaid bills, despite a policy never to do that.
Jim McDonell says many businesses and residents in SD&SG have “faced financial ruin” due to the practices of Hydro One.
“Hydro One forgot that it exists to serve its customers, not itself,” MPP McDonell added.
With the pending sale of a majority stake in Hydro One, McDonell finds is “appalling” the Liberal government would consider removing the hydro utility from oversight by the Ontario ombudsman.
