ALEXANDRIA – North Glengarrians are taking another stab at winning upgrades to the Glengarry Sports Palace.

The town and “Home of the Glens” is in the Sportsnet Kraft Hockeyville competition, looking to win $100,000 in arena upgrades and hosting an NHL pre-season matchup.

The application, submitted by Derick Viau, says the Billy Gebbie Arena could use upgrades in the dressing rooms, new glass and a skate sharpening machine.

Viau states the town would be the best Hockeyville community because “Alexandria breathes and eats hockey 24/7.”

The 500-seat arena in the Glengarry Sports Palace is home to the Alexandria Glens and a number of minor hockey teams.

Alexandria is among 1,037 Canadian nominations and a judging panel will pick the final 10 communities, which will be announced Mar. 14.

In 2010, Alexandria made it all the way through the competition before being knocked out of the pick of the final five communities.
