CHESTERVILLE – A well-known Morrisburg lawyer has been killed in a head-on crash near Chesterville.
Peter John Remillard, 62, was one of two drivers involved in the crash on a section of County Road 7 in North Dundas around 9 a.m. Tuesday morning.
The cause is still under investigation but early inductions are Remillard’s BMW SUV was heading toward Chesterville when it collided with an oncoming Dodge SUV, driven by a 40-year-old North Dundas Township woman.
Remillard died from his injuries in hospital.
He was partner in the law firm Gorrell, Grenkie & Remillard in Morrisburg since 1983 and was also partner in the firm Cass, Grenkie & Remillard in Chesterville.
He served one term as a municipal councillor in the former Village of Morrisburg prior to amalgamation, and was actively involved in the community, serving in a number of groups including the Morrisburg and District Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Cancer Society and the Upper Canada Playhouse.
The driver of the Dodge SUV has serious non-life threatening injuries.
County Road 7 is still closed from St. Marys Road to County Road 8 as of 1:45 p.m. as investigators work at the scene.
Detours are in place.
It’s not known when the highway will reopen.
