CORNWALL – The Ontario Travel Information Center property on Brookdale Avenue could be the new home for a restaurant.
Cornwall Newswatch has learned the property at 903 Brookdale Avenue next to the Rotary Traffic Circle has conditionally been sold by the Ontario government, which had listed the property for $449,000.
The Brockville realtor listing the property could not disclose any details citing privacy laws.
An Ontario government title search on Jan. 20 shows the property is still in the hands of the Crown corporation, meaning the deal hasn’t closed.
But a source tells Cornwall Newswatch a Cornwall businessman, who is yet to be publicly named, is behind the deal.
Meantime, a numbered Ontario company applied for Heart of the City funding for up to $7,500 assistance with architectural and engineering plans for development of the 3,800 square foot building.
Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) documents show the developer plans to invest roughly $307,000.
The type of restaurant or chain is not known.
PAC approved the funding in a 7-3 vote Tuesday night but it still has to be approved by city council.
