CORNWALL – Area farmers are preparing for the upcoming Annual Eco Farm Day conference. This is the 31st annual conference, and is one of the largest agricultural conferences in the region, next to the Ottawa Valley Farm Show.
The conference will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015 at Cornwall Ramada.
Eco Farm Day is presented by the Ottawa-St Lawrence-Outaouais chapter of Canadian Organic Growers (COG-OSO). This year they are working with the cooperation of Organic Meadow and the Bauta Initiative on Seed Security.
There will be a keynote presentation by Tony McQuail who will present Healthy Land, Healthy People, Healthy Profits: Holistic Management for Sustainable Agriculture. McQuail, a farmer since 1970, has extensive experience with agricultural and government programs, as well as being an educator with the Holistic Management Institute. The institute helps farming families used methodical planning to make decisions that are ecologically, economically and socially sustainable.
During the conference there will be a number of interactive workshops, a buffet of local organic food, as well as booths from the exhibitors and sponsors.
The workshops include scaling up the market farm, organic certification and crop rotations, and cover crops and weed management in organic field crops. These workshops are designed to aid farmers in growing economic crops and raising livestock.
