Cornwall family ordered to remove outdoor rink

CORNWALL – A Cornwall family have definitely had a damper put on their winter recreation as the city has ordered them to remove a hockey rink from their front lawn.

The Vincent family on Monaco Crescent received a notice from the city’s bylaw department Monday about their rink saying it obstructs the right-of-way.

They have until Jan. 5, 2015 to comply.

The move by the city, which at the same time is asking people to spearhead the building of outdoor rinks, is causing a firestorm of public criticism on social media – mostly leveled against the city.

Coun. David Murphy tells the Seaway News he hopes something can be worked out to find a happy medium.

Murphy told the paper the city received a couple of complaints from residents living in the Monaco Crescent neighbourhood.
