SOUTH GLENGARRY – The O.P.P. K-9 unit had to be called in to track down a suspected contraband tobacco smuggler.
As part of its monthly report, the Cornwall Regional Task Force released details of its seizures Wednesday.
The CRTF says its members spotted suspicious activity along the St. Lawrence River in South Glengarry on Oct. 13.
Officers say they saw two men moving large garbage bags from a dock to an outbuilding on the waterfront.
When police moved in to make an arrest, the men fled.
One suspect, 35, from Lachine, Quebec was arrested while the O.P.P. K-9 unit had to be brought in to track and locate the other suspect – a 36-year-old from Lachine, Quebec.
Police recovered 280 bags of fine cut tobacco weighing 3,865 kilograms.
