Oppressive heat to continue through Wednesday

SD&G – Environment Canada says the hot and sticky weather is expected to continue in Cornwall and SD&G through Wednesday.

A heat warning is in effect with daytime highs of 30 to 35 degrees, feeling closer to 40 with the humidex.

Overnight lows will be in the high teens to lowers 20s.

Today’s forecast (Aug. 10) for Cornwall calls for a high of 34 with a humidex of 42 and Monday’s weather is expected to be just as hot with a high of 34 and a humidex of 41.

“Slightly cooler temperatures are expected by next Wednesday, bringing an end to this heat event,” the agency said.

Reduced air quality is also expected this week with the air quality index approaching the high risk category.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit is also advising people to take precautions during the hot weather, such as making sure to drink plenty of water and rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler parts of the day.
