SOUTH GLENGARRY – A transport driver has died after a collision between two rigs on Highway 401 near the Ontario-Quebec border.
SD&G OPP say the collision happened in the eastbound lanes around 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Pictures from South Glengarry Fire Services show the rigs engulfed in fire with a large debris field on the highway.
Investigators say their initial findings show that one transport truck collided with another truck that were both travelling east at the time.
One driver was pronounced dead at the scene – the other was not hurt.
The victim’s identity is being withheld until relatives are notified.
As of 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at the 4th Line Road exit remain closed for a police investigation. Westbound traffic is unaffected.
