CORNWALL – The Cornwall Police Service confirms it has dropped 18 disciplinary charges levelled against a police sergeant in 2018.
Sgt. Shawn Martelle had been charged under the Police Services Act with 11 counts of neglect of duty, five counts of discreditable conduct and two counts of deceit.
“Shawn has retired from policing so we no longer have jurisdiction,” Insp. Dave Michaud with the Professional Standards Bureau told Cornwall Newswatch Friday.
Martelle retired in June 2021, Michaud explained.
Hearing dates had been conducted in 2018 and 2019, though Martelle wasn’t able to participate due to medical issues, before the proceedings were postponed indefinitely.
No details were made public about the alleged misconduct by Martelle.
