CORNWALL – A charge of failing to show up in a Cornwall court against a man accused of trying to set Inverarden House on fire in 2020 has been dropped.

Court records show the breach charge was withdrawn during a court appearance Jan. 13, 2022.

David Schulte was charged in May 2020 after Cornwall firefighters were called to the historic site at 3550 Montreal Road after a tire was set on fire on the front porch. They were able to put it out with minimal damage.

The court has set aside two days in early September for a preliminary hearing, where the court will determine whether the Crown has enough evidence to warrant a trial.

Schulte is facing charges of arson and breach of probation for failing to keep the peace.

A charge of arson causing damage to property carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
