LANCASTER – An engineer from Williamstown will be the next member of South Glengarry council.

Council agreed in a unanimous vote Monday night to appoint Rebecca Luck to fill the seat after Stephanie Jaworski was appointed deputy mayor. Her name was put forward by Coun. Sam McDonell and was supported by Jaworski.

Luck works for EVB Engineering in Cornwall and has a degree in engineering from McGill University in Montreal.

She was one of eight members of the public who expressed interest in the position and make their pitch to council last week.

“I moved to Glengarry when I was 10 years old, and I will always call it my home. It is a community that I love and cherish for its quality of life, cultural heritage, and of course, its people,” she said in her application letter.

Luck will be sworn in at the next council meeting on Monday, Feb. 7.

After the appointment, Mayor Lyle Warden openly thanked everyone for applying and said it was not an easy decision.
