CORNWALL – Mass protests over the state of long-term care are planned across the province Monday in 17 communities including Cornwall.

The demonstrations are organized by the Ontario Health Coalition, an organization that advocates for publicly-funded health care.

The local protest is at 4 p.m. outside MPP Jim McDonell’s office at 120 Second Street West on Monday, Oct. 4.

The coalition is upset with the provincial government.

It accuses the government of inaction on the state of Ontario’s long-term care homes since a shocking Canadian Armed Forces report last year detailed the horrific state of care inside five Ontario homes.

Among its demands, the OHC is calling for immediate increases to care levels and staffing, enforcement of care standards, starting surprise inspections again and eliminating for-profit long-term care.

The day of the protest is also the same day MPPs head back to Queen’s Park.

The Cornwall event is overseen by Elaine MacDonald.
