AVONMORE – A former English lecturer and horse riding instructor will be representing the Green Party in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry.

The local riding association says Dr. Jeanie Warnock was chosen during its recent AGM at North Stormont Place.

In a statement, Warnock, who taught for 15 years at the University of Ottawa, says pandemic-driven mental health issues with youth are a concern considering it’s difficult to get therapy or counselling without private health insurance.

Her top issues are “urgent action on the climate crisis,” mental health issues among youth, green economic development, developing apprenticeship programs and engagement with Indigenous communities.

Warnock will be facing incumbent Conservative Eric Duncan and People’s Party of Canada candidate David Anber in the Sept. 20 vote.
