ALEXANDRIA – Provincial police say an operation that closed Main Street in Alexandria for some time Thursday morning was part of a five-hour standoff after a domestic situation involving a weapon.

SD&G OPP say a man with a pellet gun shot another person inside a home on Main Street just before 1 a.m.

The victim and a witness were able to escape and then police were faced with a standoff as they say “the accused remained in the residence refusing to comply with demands to exit the home.”

After a crisis negotiator were brought in, the accused surrendered peacefully.

A 25-year-old Alexandria man faces charges of assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to wound someone, assault and criminal harassment.

His name was not released because OPP routinely don’t release names in domestic cases.
