CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is facing 16 charges including animal cruelty, sexual assault and forcible confinement following an investigation by city police.

The Cornwall Police Service’s Sexual Assault Child Abuse Unit started a probe after receiving a report of ongoing sexual abuse late last year.

It’s alleged that “persons known” to the accused were sexually assaulted between September and December 2020.

“It is also alleged during this time the man displayed cruel behaviour towards his dog,” the CPS said.

Evan MacKay, 22, of Cornwall turned himself in to police on Monday (Feb. 1).

He is facing one count of assault, five counts of sexual assault, two counts of assault causing bodily harm by choking, one count of forcible confinement, four counts of sexual interference, two counts of invitation to sexual touching and one count of cruelty to animals.

MacKay was held for a bail hearing.
