Second snowmobile crash in SD&G; two hurt in crash

Update 9:33 p.m. Sunday: This story is updated to show improvement in snowmobile driver’s condition, road reopened.

ALEXANDRIA – Two people have been injured in a second snowmobile crash this weekend in SD&G.

Local O.P.P. say a snowmobile entered County Road 43 in Alexandria this afternoon (Jan. 24) around 3 p.m. where it was struck by a vehicle.

The 20-year-old snowmobile driver has been taken to hospital. He initially was listed with critical injuries. The O.P.P. tweeted around 6 p.m. the man’s injuries were upgraded to “serious non-life threatening.”

His 20-year-old female passenger was also taken to hospital for what police say are non-life threatening injuries.

A section of County Road 43, west of Alexandria, was closed to traffic and detours were in place. The section of road reopened around 6 p.m.

This is the second snowmobile-related crash this weekend after a 44-year-old man lost his life in a crash on County Road 2 in Ingleside Saturday afternoon.
