Snowmobiler dies in Ingleside collision

Update 9:23 p.m. Saturday: O.P.P. tweeted that County Road 2 has reopened to traffic following their collision investigation.

INGLESIDE – A snowmobile rider from South Stormont is dead after a collision between his sled and a car in Ingleside Saturday afternoon.

Provincial police say the snowmobile entered County Road 2, near Farran Drive, around 2 p.m. and collided with an eastbound vehicle.

In addition to SD&G O.P.P., South Stormont Fire and Emergency Services was also called to assist.

The 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His name is being withheld by police until relatives are notified.

Police say the driver and passenger in the car were not hurt.

The crash happened near a gas station that is popular with sledders, though the circumstances prior to the crash including the cause are still under investigation.

A section of County Road 2 between Dickinson Drive (County Road 14) and Killarney Road is closed (as of 5:20 p.m.) and detours are in place.
