GREEN VALLEY – Investigators have completed their work on a massive fire at a wood pallet manufacturing plant, east of Green Valley.

In an interview with Cornwall Newswatch, South Glengarry Fire Chief Dave Robertson says the cause of the Saturday, Nov. 21 fire at XL Wood Products on Concession Road 8 is undetermined.

“Due to the amount of damage from fire, the Ontario Fire Marshall was not able to attend as there was nothing remaining in the area of origin to actually investigate,” Robertson said.

The chief says his department and the insurance company both completed their investigations.

“All results came back as undetermined as far as cause due to the severe amount of fire in that area,” he explained.

The fire department believes the fire was accidental.

“We do not suspect anything other than an accidental fire,” Robertson said.

An actual dollar value on the amount of damage wasn’t immediately available due to the holidays, though the four main buildings were previously described as a total loss.
