CORNWALL – The Eastern Ontario Health Unit region has added over 250 newly confirmed COVID-19 cases in the last four days.

The EOHU’s update Monday afternoon added 255 cases since New Year’s Eve, to bring the total to 1,689 confirmed cases.

Of those, 469 cases are active, an increase of 173 cases since the last update Dec. 31. There are 81 more resolved cases bringing the total to 1,186.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Prescott-Russell – 934 cases (213 active) – increase of 62 active cases
  • SD&G – 344 cases (108 active) – increase of 46 active cases
  • Cornwall – 350 cases (128 active) – increase of 57 active cases
  • Akwesasne (ON/QC) – 61 cases (20 active) – increase of eight active cases

The region also recorded another death over the holidays, bringing the total number of casualties to 34.

As of Monday, the health unit area’s rolling average of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population is 160 – four times the amount of cases needed to impose the most stringent restrictions, known as the red zone.

The positivity rate has little bearing on the current situation as the entire province is in lockdown until later this month.
