Akwesasne cops make $600K marijuana bust

AKWESASNE – Two men from Summerstown and Cornwall have been arrested after Akwesasne police say they seized 96 kilograms (212 pounds) of packaged marijuana.

The bust happened on Thursday night last week (Dec. 3) when officers with the Joint Investigation Team and Akwesasne Mohawk Police intercepted a vehicle on Cornwall Island Road.

Police believe the packaged pot was destined for the United States.

The driver from Summerstown and the passenger from Cornwall were each charged possession for the purpose of transporting for sale and possession of currency obtained by crime.

Police believe the drugs are worth about $600,000.
