Charge laid in crash that killed Cornwall motorcycle rider

ST-ALBERT, Ont. – A woman has been charged in connection to a crash last month on a road near St-Albert which killed a Cornwall man.

Russell County O.P.P. announced Saturday that 78-year-old Pauline Viau from Gatineau, Que. has been charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act.

Jean-Paul Bouffard, 73, of Cornwall died Nov. 8 when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car on the Lafleche Sideroad in The Nation Township.

Bouffard died at the scene despite EMS efforts to save him.

A careless driving causing death charge under the Highway Traffic Act carries a minimum fine of $2,000 and a $50,000 maximum or a jail sentence for a maximum of two years or both. A person’s driver’s licence can also be suspended for up to five years.
