CORNWALL – A Cornwall man has been charged in connection to a potentially deadly high speed crash Tuesday night on Ninth Street West.

A security video posted on Facebook Tuesday night shows a delivery driver parking his car in the outside lane of Ninth Street West near Augustus Street with his hazard lights on.

Less than a minute later, a dark sedan, which appears to be travelling at a high rate of speed, slams into the parked car.

“This delivery guy parked where I have parked many times leaving my kids and my baby in the car to run in quick to grab something or to run and grab the mail. This could have easily been us,” Kanakahowi Marie said in the Facebook post.

She added that drivers need to start slowing down on Ninth Street – a main four-lane east-west road in the city.

The Cornwall Police Service announced today (Nov. 12) that a 45-year-old Cornwall man was arrested at the scene and charged with impaired driving and refusing to provide a breath sample.

He will appear in a Cornwall court Jan. 14, 2021.
