CORNWALL – Canadian National Railway traffic had to be halted on one track through Cornwall Monday night after a pickup truck fire near the tracks.

Emergency responders were called to the crossing on Power Dam Drive between Vincent Massey Drive and Cornwall Centre Road for a truck on fire around 6:45 p.m.

The Chevy four-door pickup wasn’t on the tracks but it was close enough that the heat and the flames damaged the railway signalling equipment.

CNR stopped one of its trains that was supposed to head through the area to allow Cornwall firefighters put out the fire.

Emergency responders wrapped up at the scene around 8:15 p.m.

Information on the cause of the fire and whether it was considered suspicious was not immediately available Tuesday from police or the fire department.
