AKWESASNE – Police in Akwesasne say fentanyl laced street drugs are circulating the community after officers dealt with two overdoses – one that proved to be deadly.

Akwesasne Mohawk Police say a 38-year-old man died of an overdose at a home in Snye on Tuesday despite officers and paramedics trying to perform live-saving measures.

The previous night (Monday, Oct. 5), police and paramedics were called to another home in Snye where a 30-year-old man had overdosed. They were able to revive him and he was treated and released from hospital.

AMPS says the public should be aware of “fentanyl laced drugs in our community. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine.”
