Cornwall police officer charged with drunken driving

CORNWALL – An officer with the Cornwall Police Service has been charged with drunken driving while off-duty, the city force said Monday.

Staff Sgt. Robert Archambault was arrested Saturday by Ontario Provincial Police.

Details on what happened were not immediately available as the O.P.P. media relations officer is off until Wednesday.

Archambault is charged with driving with a blood alcohol content over 80 milligrams – a charge better known as “over 80.”

He will make his first appearance in a Cornwall courtroom on Sept. 22.

In the meantime, he has been assigned to desk duty while the CPS’ Professional Standards Bureau conducts its own investigation.
