GLEN WALTER – People heading to and from South Glengarry and the City of Cornwall are going to have to contend with a major detour for most of the remainder of this year.

The county is closing the County Road 2 bridge at Gray’s Creek, just east of Boundary Road, starting today (July 6).

The 55-year-old bridge is going through a rebuild, which is expected to last until November.

Motorists will have to detour via Purcell Road, Tyotown Road and Boundary Road.

The county says the bridge couldn’t be partially closed because it is curved, creating a safety hazard for workers on the bridge deck.

The $1 million project will include replacing the expansion joints in the bridge, which are failing and bringing the railings up to today’s standards.
