CORNWALL – A section of a tree came crashing to the ground on Fourth Street East late Sunday afternoon as the region experienced a severe thunderstorm.
That section from Gloucester Street to Adolphus Street is closed and will likely be for a few hours as a contractor is called to clean up the mess.
Cornwall Parks Supervisor Scott Porter says a rotten limb of the 60 foot tall (18 meter) sugar maple failed.
The tree, which is on private property, also took out power lines to a nearby home in the 330 block of Fourth Street East.
There have also been reports of localized flooding in the city.
Cornwall and SD&G has been under a severe thunderstorm watch and was briefly under a warning around 4:30 p.m.
