Cornwall road closures for Saturday demonstration

CORNWALL – Drivers heading through Cornwall Saturday afternoon will have to watch out for delays and road closures as a “peaceful protest” is planned.

The Black Lives Matter demonstration will affect sections of Pitt Street (closed Water to Ninth), Water Street (westbound closed), Cumberland Street (northbound closed) and Ninth Street (eastbound closed).

The walk will head from city hall, south to Water Street, west to Cumberland Street, north to Ninth Street and east to Pitt Street, which it will end where it began.

The Cornwall Police Service says it respects the rights of citizens to demonstrate and will provide necessary traffic control.

The demonstration is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and is expected to go on until 4 p.m.

A diagram from the Cornwall Police Service shows the planned route for a Black Lives Matter demonstration on Saturday, June 6, 2020. Police will be closed some or all of these roads. (Cornwall Police Service via Newswatch Group)
