Rockland grocery store worker tests positive for COVID-19

ROCKLAND, Ont. – The regional health unit is advising the public that a grocery store worker on cash last week has tested positive for novel coronavirus.

The Eastern Ontario Health Unit says the employee at Parent’s Independent at 2737 Laurier Street in Rockland “had been present at work during the period of communicability” for the virus and may have been contagious.

The worker is in isolation.

People who visited the outdoor garden center between Monday and Thursday last week (May 11-14) during the day may be vulnerable, though the health unit says the public risk is low. Affected people should monitor for symptoms and, if they do have symptoms, seek testing.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis says they are releasing the information so that people who shopped in the garden center are aware.

The store and garden center has since gone through a full cleaning and disinfection.

Rockland is in the northernmost spot in the Eastern Ontario Health Unit region, about 84 kilometers north of Cornwall on the shore of the Ottawa River.
